United strives to provide the best possible service to our customers. Our project managers are trained in more than just Test and Balance, and they are taught to bring a level of professionalism and concern to your project that results in better communication and ultimately better projects. The reliance of clients on the accuracy of test and balance reports imposes on the profession, an obligation to maintain high standards of integrity and competence. This code has evolved and is supported by management and employees of United. In recognition of their obligation to the public and profession, United has agreed to comply with the following articles:

  • We will at all times serve our clients with integrity, competence, and objectivity.
  • We will perform all work for clients in accordance with the latest published industry standards as they apply to the project requirements.
  • We will assign personnel to projects who are qualified by knowledge, experience and character, and who will carry out each engagement under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
  • We will only certify work on a project which was performed by employees of our firm or under our direct supervision.
  • We will only serve a client under terms or conditions that will not impair our objectivity, independence or integrity.
  • We will advise client personnel of any problems encountered on a project and make subsequent recommendations as required.
  • We will review the work of others only if requested by the client but shall notify the “others” of the fact that we have been asked to conduct such a review.
  • We will be fair in our dealings with our clients and charge reasonable fees commensurate with the nature of services performed.
  • We will obey all local state and federal laws, rules and regulations affecting our industry.

Customer Service Rules

Through the years we have noticed that almost every customer service concern brought to our attention could of been resolved had our technicians followed a few basic rules. Because of this, we have developed and implemented the following rules that we expect all of our technicians to follow:

  1. Present yourself in a professional and responsible manner. 
  2. Return phone calls within an hour and emails by the end of the day. Don’t delegate to the office, say “Let me look into it and get back to you”. 
  3. Contact the customer before going to a new project, speak to their field staff, and controls contractor.
  4. Check in with the General Contractor at the beginning of the project, enter contact info into BuildingStart, leave a business card.
  5. On Day 1: Attempt to balance one of each systems, check for issues that are usually found at the end of a job.
  6. Complete all data and remarks before starting work on the next system.
  7. Send issues report before leaving the jobsite, and ONLY discuss issues with our customer. Call customers with any “show stopping” issues.
  8. On smaller projects close out equipment as much as possible, if issues are not addressed, a final report will be sent after two weeks.
  9. Contact the customer when the project is completed, and let them know of any issues or remarks that will be on the project.
  10. The Final Report needs to be ready for the office the day after you are offsite.

Working directly for a building owner allows us to create a relationship and directly obtain feedback about how our changes affect everything from comfort of occupants to the cost of operating the facility.

 

What is TAB?

Test and Balance at it’s simplest is optimizing the HVAC system to work as designed. Do you have hot or cold spots? Units that run continuously and never satisfy? Using our specialized instruments we come in and work with what you have already installed to provide the right amount of airflow to all the spaces served by your HVAC systems.

As Test and Balance contractors, it is our job to make your vision come to life. We take what is on paper and make it a reality. Obviously not every job goes smoothly, not every piece of equipment can be installed exactly how it is shown, but our expertise and experience can help to still achieve the designer’s intent. United is an Independent Certified firm focused on quality. Our technicians go through a comprehensive online training program to ensure that they know the right way to complete a project. We go to great lengths to ensure the appropriately certified personnel are on your projects. 

Straight Spec Another Firm?

United believes that Test and Balance firms should be chosen on ability and price. It has never been our mission to be the ONLY Test and Balance firm specified by an engineer. Different Certifications

We have found that a lot of the prejudice requiring a specific certification are outdated, or meant to stop a particular firm. We go above and beyond the items requested in the different procedural standard and provide a similar report to the AABC requirements. Additionally, in lieu of the AABC “Total Balance” that involves a limited checkout of controls, we can provide a complete Building Systems Commissioning. We have even partnered with another Cx Firm to provide an independent NEBB/ACG Building Commissioning at a competitive price.

Our experience with General Contractors has taught us a lot about their values. Every GC wants to deliver a quality product, on time and under budget. United also shares these values, and has a reputation for delivering them. By partnering with the General Contractor money can be saved, and scheduling can be improved.

Although we would love to have a two weeks notice, we understand that is not always possible. and we will work within the time that we are given.

Our advanced technology and training has allowed for us to price projects more competitively than other firms, and having a history of success on larger projects our pricing goes down and not up the larger the project.
